The Miss Madison has been racing on the Unlimited circuit for 50 years. The team and city of Madison will be celebrating in style, kicking off the festivities for the 61st annual Indiana Governor's Cup July 1-3.
Did you know that the Go3 Racing Team also had a part in the history of the Miss Madison and their success?

The 2011 APBA Gold Cup in Detroit seems to be gaining some stable footing for the 102nd running in July.
A mid-April story in the Detroit Free Press stated the Gold Cup may be in jeopardy this summer. Event Director Mark Weber gave an unofficial deadline of Memorial Day to determine if they will have enough sponsor money for this summer's race. The Detroit River Regatta Association is still seeking a title sponsor for the event. And while the Detroit Yacht Club stepped up as a presenting sponsor, more sponsors are needed.
The DYC held a fundraising event for the DRRA on May 6. It appears to have been a huge success. Here's what the DRRA newsletter from Wednesday reported:
Gar Wood would have been proud of the Detroit Yacht Club members, Board of Directors and the Fundraising Committee and its Chairman Alan Whitman.
In less than eight weeks the DYC staged, hosted and executed a fundraiser to "Save the Cup" that has reached the $100,000 mark and is still growing.
Over 550 guests attended the fundraiser and were treated to outstanding food stations created by the Chef and his staff.
The silent auction had something for everyone. Hotel packages, outdoor sporting packages, wine, food, spas, race memorabilia, you name it, they had it.
The live auction showed that we had competitors in the room, and yes even one person took home the "Checkered Flag" to be waved during the final heat of the 102nd running of the winner take all Gold Cup final.
Something new this year is the brand new P1 28SS Panther Super Stock class that will be competing on the river this July. The P1 promoters have agreed to supply four boats and drivers for the 2011 Inaugural Yacht Club Shoot Out. This race will take place during the Gold Cup Races. Both DYC and GPYC have been given two boats to auction off the "Rider" for each hull. The winners and representing the DYC this July will be Bill Rands and Howard Trerice.
The DRRA Board of Directors along with our 400 plus volunteers would like to thank the Detroit Yacht Club for organizing such a successful and wonderful evening.
The H1 Unlimited fleet is scheduled to make Detroit it's 2nd stop on the tour the weekend of July 8-10. For more information on the Gold Cup, visit their website here.

Enhanced Racing Experience |
|

Have you ever been at an Unlimited hydroplane racing venue and had a hard time hearing the PA announcer? We've all been there. All the race sites have great voices keeping the fans informed about the teams, drivers and action on the water. Now there is a way you can keep informed all weekend long as you move around the venue.
FLR Sports Radio calls themselves "event enhancement specialists". They are offering a very affordable way of not missing a single word the racing announcers have to say by purchasing a FLR Sports Radio proprietary personal radio reciever. On their website, the Ft. Wayne, Indiana company says they will give fans multiple channels to listen to the PA and get behind the scenes information like driver, owner and crew interviews to enhance their experience on race weekend.
According to the FLR website, they are offering this service for races at Madison and Detroit this year. Order on-line and pay $15.00. If you wait until you hit the riverfront, you'll pay $17.00.
They say on the website, "The FLR Sports Radio receiver is the must have item at most events." Looks pretty cool and definitely another tool to keep up on all the action on the H1 Unlimited tour.
Visit the FLR Sports Radio website and get more details on this exciting new event enhancement product.
